LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty lacrosse and head coach Kelly Nangle have announced the hiring of former Lady Flame, Lizzy Ferguson, as an assistant coach. Ferguson returns to Liberty after five years playing at Liberty (2019-23) and serving as a Liberty Shepherd in 2024.
Ferguson joined Liberty as a freshman in 2018 and played for five seasons (2019-23). She finished her playing career as the program's all-time leader in draw controls with 288, including a single-season record of 182 draw controls in 2023.

Ferguson dominated the draw circle in her fifth year, earning the program's first All-American selection as an honorable mention from USA Lacrosse and ILWomen. The midfielder ranked third in the country with 9.58 draw controls per game.
The midfielder was named to the 2023 Atlantic Sun All-Conference first team. She was selected as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week twice and was named the ASUN Player of the Week once. Ferguson stuffed the stat sheet, ranking second on the team with 23 caused turnovers and ranked third on the squad with 29 ground balls.
Prior to her final year, Ferguson totaled 31 goals, five assists and 36 points. She tallied 42 draw controls in her junior season and 62 in her senior year before exploding for 182 the next year. Ferguson exceeded her career output in caused turnovers in her final season after tallying 21 total in four seasons (2019-22).
