Liberty Softball Head Coach Dot Richardson and her staff have been named the 2025 ATEC/NFCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, as announced today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
A total of 10 staffs, representing the 10 NFCA Regions, were named Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year. These 10 remain in the running for National Coaching Staff of the Year, which will be announced on June 19.
Richardson's coaching staff, which also includes associate head coach Kasey Fagan Graham along with assistant coaches Sami Fagan Harmon and Emily Kirby Nagle, led Liberty to an historic season. This is the second time in program history that Liberty has been named NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, as the Lady Flames also received the honor in 2018.
Richardson was named CUSA Coach of the Year, her fifth career conference coach of the year honor. She was also awarded the Mid-Major Coach of the Year by D1Softball.com.
The Lady Flames finished the season with a 50-15 record, setting a new program record for single-season victories. Liberty won both the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles for the second year in a row.
The team made history at the 2025 NCAA Bryan-College Station Regional, winning two out of three games against No. 1 Texas A&M to earn its first-ever Super Regional appearance. The Lady Flames were the first team in the Super Regional era to knock out the No. 1 national seed in the Regional round. The following week, Liberty competed in the NCAA Eugene Super Regional against No. 16 Oregon.
Liberty was ranked among the Top 25 in at least one national poll 12 times this season and entered the NCAA Division I Softball Championship with an RPI of 26.
The Lady Flames set or tied a majority of their program records, including wins (50), conference wins (23), home wins (24), batting average (.328), runs scored (407), RBI (361), extra-base hits (180), walks (230), total bases (888), stolen bases (117), sacrifice flies (36), slugging percentage (.521), on base percentage (.409) and pitching strikeouts (402).
