
Top-Seeded Liberty Run-Rules No. 4 Seed LA Tech 8-0 in CUSA Quarters

No. 1 seed Liberty began its title defense with a decisive 8-0, six-inning victory over No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2025 CUSA Softball Championship, Thursday at WKU Softball Complex.
The Lady Flames (45-11) tossed their fourth shutout in a row, advancing to tomorrow's semifinal round against No. 3 seed Jacksonville State at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT). The winner of that game will go to Saturday's final, airing at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT) on CBS Sports Network. LA Tech (31-24) falls into an elimination game tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. ET).

Turning Point
- The Lady Flames hit for the cycle during a five-run first inning, taking a commanding 5-0 lead. Savannah Woodard led off with a homer. KK Madrey made it 3-0 with a two-run triple, before Paige Doerr's sacrifice fly scored Madrey. Savannah Jessee hit an RBI double for a 5-0 lead.
- With Liberty leading 7-0 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Rachel Roupe drew a walk to end the game by run rule.Â
- Liberty outhit LA Tech 9-3 for the game. The Bulldogs left three runners on base, compared to two stranded by the Lady Flames.
- Elena Escobar (20-3) earned her 20th win of the season and sixth shutout of 2025, allowing three hits and striking out five.
- Laney Johnson (5-5) drew the loss, allowing five runs on three hits, walking two in 2/3 of an inning before giving way to Mattison Buster.
- KK Madrey went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and one run scored, while Savannah Woodard batted 2-for-3 with a homer and one run scored. Savannah Jessee went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI, while JaMaya Byrum and Brooke Roberts both homered.Â
- The Lady Flames are now 10-0 all-time against LA Tech in softball, including 2-0 in CUSA Softball Championship play. Â
- The team has not allowed a single run in the last 27 2/3 innings. This in the fifth time in program history, and first since 2024 against Louisiana Tech, that the Lady Flames have not allowed a single run in a full three-game series.
- The Lady Flames have hit 10 homers in three games played in WKU Softball Complex this season.
- Escobar is the seventh Lady Flame with a 20-win season and first since Karlie Keeney in 2023.
- Roupe and Madrey both scored their 50th run of the season today. The last Liberty player to score 50 or more runs in a season was Devyn Howard in 2022.
- Today was Liberty's 15th shutout victory in conference tournament history and first since Kaylan Yoder's three-hitter against LA Tech last season.
- It was also Liberty's sixth run-rule win in a conference tournament game and first since downing North Florida in the 2022 ASUN final.
- Madrey has reached base safely in each of the last 14 games.
