JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Liberty wrapped up its showing at the East Coast Relays with a successful Saturday of competition. Leading the way were Indea Cartwright (program-record 13.09 in women's 100 hurdles) and Omari Lewis (his 10.07 was the fastest wind-legal men's 100 all-time for the Flames).
Women's Day 2 Recap
The first Liberty athlete to compete Saturday morning, Cartwright blazed to a 13.09 in the women's 100 hurdles prelims. That improved upon her own Liberty record of 13.11 set at the 2024 CUSA Championship at UTEP.
Cartwright went on to take third place in the final with a 13.22 clocking. She now owns the 14 fastest women's 100 hurdles efforts in program history.
Addilae Watts' three-meet winning streak was snapped in the women's javelin. But she finished second with a 152-2 performance in an event where four of the top five finishers were CUSA throwers.
Other top-10 efforts came from Sofia Mojica (sixth in women's discus, 150-4) and Eva Whiteman (eighth in women's high jump, season best-equaling 5-5).
Liberty did not compete in any relays in Jacksonville, but all four of the Lady Flames ran well in the open 400. These included Shania Adderley (season-best 55.59), Mahogany Mobley (55.71), Maddy Merritt (personal-best 55.87) and Marianah Scott (personal-best 56.88).
Akilah Lewis posted an 11.52 for 12th place in the women's 100 prelims, narrowly missing the final.
Men's Day 2 Recap
Omari Lewis was edged at the line in the men's 100 final by NCAA national leader Abdul-Rasheed Saminu of South Florida, 10.06 to 10.07. Lewis' runner-up clocking eclipsed his own Liberty wind-legal 100 record time of 10.08 from the 2024 Virginia Grand Prix.
All four of Liberty's men's throwers recorded top-10 finishes on Saturday, including the men's discus trio of Christian Hicks (third, 187-1), Beau Backes (sixth, 172-3) and Trevor Veenstra (ninth, 166-5) and Ethan Mylin in the men's javelin (eighth, 192-1).
Every Liberty thrower who competed in Jacksonville over the course of the two-day meet finished ninth or better, headlined by Kellen Kimes' men's hammer victory on Friday.
