Zealand Sets Another Liberty Freshman Record on Sunday

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second time in three days, Liberty's Allie Zealand set a program freshman record, Sunday night at the Duke Twilight. Her latest record-setting effort was a 4:14.84 1,500 clocking.
Women's Meet Recap
After running a Liberty freshman-record 2:07.31 during Friday's The Hill City Twilight women's 800, Zealand was back at it on Sunday. She led the women's 1,500 at the bell before eventually finishing fifth in 4:14.84, lowering her own record of 4:15.67 from the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 18.
Zealand leapfrogged Calli Doan for the No. 2 spot in program history, just missing the Liberty women's 1,500 record of 4:14.71 set by her mother and coach, Heather (Sagan) Zealand, in 2002. Zealand's effort Sunday evening in Durham marked the fastest time posted by a CUSA runner since 2022.
CUSA women's 5K leader Adelyn Fairley came in eighth in Sunday's 5K race in 16:04.46. Doan also competed in the event, posting a 15:59.86 for fourth place.
Men's Meet Recap
Edwin Kiprop led the men's 5K for several laps before ending up as the runner-up in 13:59.37. It marked his second sub-14:00 5K in as many races this season, also including his conference-best 13:52.95 effort at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Nathan Moore followed in ninth place in a season-best 14:25.29, while Jack Cottrell took 12th in 14:31.50.

The annual one-day event will take place at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex and will include a ceremony to recognize the team's graduating seniors.
