LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Kennesaw State Owls slipped past the Liberty Flames 10-9 for a come-from-behind victory Friday evening at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
The Flames jumped out to an early 7-1 lead but could not hold it as the visiting Owls scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 advantage.
Liberty fought back to tie the game at 9-9 with runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, only to see Kennesaw State push across the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a ground-ball double play. In the bottom of the inning of the back-and-forth game, the Flames advanced a runner into scoring position, but Owl reliever Daniel Powell was able to retire the next batter to preserve the Kennesaw State lead. It was as close as Liberty would get in the contest as reliever Bo Rhudy pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the win for the Owls.
Liberty shortstop Tanner Marsh had two hits and walked twice in the game. He hit his second home run of the season and scored four times. Right fielder Camden Troyer also had two hits, walked, drove in a run, and scored twice for the Flames.
Liberty falls to 6-10 in Conference USA and 24-18 overall. Kennesaw State moves to 11-5 in conference and 21-20 overall.
