
No. 2 Flames Move on to CUSA Championship Final, Best No. 3 Jacksonville State 4-2

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 2 Liberty (11-12) advances to the CUSA Championship final, topping No. 3 Jacksonville State (12-7) 4-2 in a nearly four-hour marathon match on Saturday afternoon. The Flames will face No. 1 Middle Tennessee in the title match on Sunday at Noon from the Liberty Tennis Complex.
With fans packed in the stands, ramping up the energy from point to point, the Flames came out hot to take the No. 1 doubles match 6-3. Liberty ultimately missed out on the doubles point, falling 7-5 on both courts two and three.
Liberty evened the match at 1-1 with Chase Robinson swiftly topping Alin Fatu 6-2, 6-1 on court five. The Flames earned the lead on court one as Joaquim Almeida secured a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.
The Flames pushed the lead to 3-1 on court four with Rodrigo Santiago Arraez coming back from a difficult first set to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Gamecocks gained a point back in the No. 3 singles match, taking down Siwanat Auytayakul 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Carl Roothman and Liberty secured the match-winning fourth point in the No. 2 singles match, pulling away in the third set to best Charlie Penman 7-5, 6-7 (6), 6-2.
Liberty improves to 6-1 against the former ASUN rival, Jacksonville State. The Flames bested the Gamecocks with a similar 4-2 final in the 2024 CUSA Men's Tennis Championship semifinal.
The Flames will meet the Blue Raiders in the CUSA Championship final for the second consecutive season. Middle Tennessee bested Liberty 4-2 in the title match last spring.
