NM State Rallies for 3-1 Win Over Liberty

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State used a three-run sixth inning to come back and beat No. 21 Liberty, 3-1 on Sunday at NM State Softball Complex.
With the win, the Aggies (22-19, 9-9) snap their five-game losing streak. The Lady Flames fall to 36-9, 15-2 in CUSA play, seeing their winning streak snapped at five games. Liberty won the first two games of the weekend to claim the series victory.
Liberty was ranked No. 21 in both the Softball America and D1 Softball Top 25 Polls this week.

Turning Point
- Liberty jumped ahead in the top of the sixth. KK Madrey walked and stole second with one out. After a walk to Paige Doerr, Rachel Craine sent an RBI single to center. Aggie starter Faith Aragon then retired the next two batters.
- NM State rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Desirae Spearman walked with one out and scored on a two-out, two-run homers by Devin Elam. The Aggies later added an insurance run on an RBI double by Kristiana Watson.
- Aragon pitched a scoreless seventh to complete the upset.
- New Mexico State outhit Liberty 6-5 for the game, with the Aggies committing two errors. The Lady Flames left nine on base, while NM State stranded three. Liberty turned two double plays.
- Aragon (9-7) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out six.
- Paige Bachman (8-2) drew the loss, yielding three runs on five hits, walking two and fanning four in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Yoder allowed one hit and struck out one in 1/3 of an inning of relief.
- Lauren Garcia went 2-for-3, while Elam batted 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. Watson batted 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
- For Liberty, Rachel Craine went 1-for-2 with one RBI, while Paige Doerr (1-for-1) doubled. KK Madrey batted 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run scored.
- Liberty leads NM State 7-4 in the all-time series, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last three meetings before today.
- The Lady Flames have won all 14 conference series since joining Conference USA last season.
- Doerr improved her hitting streak to 12 games, while Savannah Woodard has reached in 14 games in a row. Roupe saw her consecutive games reached base streak end at 16 games.
- Madrey is now in sole possession of second place all-time at Liberty with 81 stolen bases during her time as a Lady Flame.
The Lady Flames return home to host Sam Houston, Thursday through Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
