
Flames Set for Duo of Challenging Home Matches

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team (6-10) looks to take big strides this weekend, hosting a pair of ranked matches this weekend against No. 70 FAU (8-7) on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 24 South Florida (16-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches at the Liberty Tennis Complex will be streamed live via SwingVision with Sunday's match having court one broadcast live on ESPN+.
The Flames seek to bounce back in Lynchburg following back-to-back road defeats. Liberty fell 5-2 at No. 44 Penn on Friday and was dropped by Elon 6-1 on Tuesday.
The team looks to build on a 2-3 record at home but seeks its first victory outside at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
Liberty looks to take the advantage in a 2-2 all-time series against FAU. The Flames bested the then No. 45 Owls 4-3 on the road on March 27 last season. That same week, Liberty topped then No. 69 South Florida 4-2 on March 29 for its first-ever win against the program (1-2).

- Joaquim Almeida (5-8) owns a 5-6 record in the No. 1 singles slot but has started the past two matches at No. 2 singles (0-2).
- Carl Roothman (6-8) has made the past two starts at No. 1 singles (1-3) and owns a 5-5 record at the No. 2 position.
- The Flames only own a winning record at the No. 2 singles slot with an 8-7 mark.
- Freshman Siwanat Auytayakul (5-7) has made the majority of his appearances in the No. 3 singles slot (1-6). He owns a 3-0 record at No. 2 and a 1-1 mark at No. 4.
Doubles Dichotomy
- The No. 1 doubles pair of No. 53 Almeida and Auytayakul own an overall 13-4 record this year and a 7-2 mark in the spring.
- The Flames have secured the doubles point in 7-of-16 matches this spring with an overall 19-20 record.
- Liberty looks for more production out of their No. 2 doubles slot. No. 1 and No. 3 doubles have combined for a 15-11 (.577) mark while No. 2 doubles owns a 4-9 mark (.308).
Newcomer Network
- At the beginning of the season, the Flames faced replacing the production of 61 singles victories out of 92 total triumphs (.663 percent) across five departing Flames (three graduating, two transfers).
- The Flames brought in three additions via transfer including Almeida (VCU), Roothman (Okla. State) and Trey Stinchcomb (Clemson). Liberty also looked to redshirt freshman Ernst Gouws and true freshman Auytaykul to step up in their first spring campaigns.
- Of Liberty's 82 singles results this spring, 52 (.634 percent) have been from newcomers to the 2024-25 active roster.
