Cannings Finishes 22nd in NCAA 100 Fly

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Liberty sophomore Kamryn Cannings finished 22nd in the 100 butterfly at the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, highlighting Liberty's participation on Friday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center.
Additionally, freshman Aly Bozzuto finished tied for 40th in the 100 breaststroke.

Historically Speaking
Cannings (100 freestyle) and Bozzuto (200 breaststroke) will both wrap up the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships tomorrow. The prelim session begins at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) with the 200 backstroke, followed by the 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly.
Additionally, freshman Aly Bozzuto finished tied for 40th in the 100 breaststroke.

- During this week's four-day meet, the top 16 from morning prelims each day qualify for evening finals.
- Virginia's Gretchen Walsh, the defending national champion in the 100 fly, broke her own NCAA record, swimming 47.21. Olivia Peoples of Florida swam 51.02, securing the last A Final spot. It took 51.35 to qualify for the B Final.
- Cannings competed the seventh and final heat of the 100 fly, finishing sixth in the session in 51.66. She was in the last circle-seeded heat, sharing the pool with Walsh. A total of 50 swimmers competed in the 100 fly this morning.
- Alex Walsh of Virginia swam the fastest time this morning in the 100 breaststroke, in 57.54, edging Tennessee's Mona McSharry (57.56). Kaelyn Gridley of Duke was the last A Finalist, qualifying in 58.30. Meanwhile, it took a 58.93 effort to qualify for the B Final.
- Bozzuto swam in the fourth out of seven heats of the 100 breaststroke, finishing eighth in her heat in 1:00.12. The Liberty freshman tied for 40th out of 48 competitors.
Historically Speaking
- Bozzuto is the fourth Liberty freshman all-time to compete at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, joining Jess Reinhardt (2013 – 100 fly, 200 fly), Payton Keiner (2018 – 100 back, 200 back) and Kamryn Cannings (2024 – 100 fly, 200 fly).
- Cannings has the top two 100 fly times by a Lady Flame all-time in NCAA Championships, with her 51.45 last year and her 51.66 today.
- Bozzuto is the second Lady Flame all-time to swim the 100 breaststroke at NCAA Championships. Her 1:00.12 from this morning is the best 100 breaststroke by a Liberty swimmer at NCAA's all-time, as Emilie Kaufman swam 1:00.32 at the 2014 NCAA Championships.
- This is the ninth time in 15 years of the program's history that at least one Lady Flame has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The Lady Flames have had two All-America honorable mention finishers, in Brye Ravettine (13th in 50 free, 2012) and Jess Reinhardt (10th in 100 fly, 2014). All competitors at the cancelled 2020 NCAA Championships were named All-Americans, so Payton Keiner received All-American honors in 2020.
