
Icard Finishes 16th in NCAA Zone Platform Final

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Liberty sophomore Shannon Icard finished 16th on platform on the final day of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, Wednesday at Rutgers Aquatic Center.
Icard, senior Maddie Freece and sophomore Chloe LaCount were competing to earn a spot in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held in Federal Way, Wash., March 19-22.
Icard scored 434.80 points, finishing 16th overall on platform. She scored 216.10 in prelims, which was the 14th best preliminary score this morning.

- During this week's meet, the top 18 from prelims each day qualify for evening finals. The top five combined scores from prelims and finals in platform diving qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
- Rutgers' Bailee Sturgill earned the top spot, with 570.30 total points. Jess Vega of Pitt claimed the fifth spot at nationals for platform, scoring 492.75.
- This year, it took 201.80 points to qualify for the Zone A Diving final on platform. Bailee Sturgill of Rutgers had the top qualifying score today with 276.00.
- Today's event featured 22 divers. The divers represent schools from Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
- Today, Icard became the first Liberty diver since Olivia Robinson in 2020 to qualify for the NCAA Zones final on platform. Robinson finished 15th on platform at Zones in both 2019 and 2020. Icard's score of 434.80 today set a new program 10-dive platform score, breaking Robinson's 393.00 from 2020.
- On Monday, Icard became the first Lady Flame since Freece in 2022 to qualify for an NCAA Zones final. Freece made the three-meter Zones final in both 2021 and 2022, earning a program-best finish of ninth at the 2021 NCAA Zone Championships.
- This is the seventh straight NCAA postseason appearance for Liberty's divers. The Lady Flames are attempting to send the first Liberty diver to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
