
Icard Claims 18th Place on 3-Meter on Day 1 at Zone Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Liberty sophomore Shannon Icard placed 18th on three-meter springboard, highlighting Liberty's day-one participation at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, Monday at Rutgers Aquatic Center.
Icard, senior Maddie Freece and sophomore Chloe LaCount are competing to earn a spot in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held in Federal Way, Wash., March 19-22. LaCount will compete on one-meter tomorrow, while Icard will contest platform diving on Wednesday.
Icard earned a spot in the finals, scoring 277.35 points in morning prelims. That was good for 16th place in qualifying. A total of 18 divers advanced to finals, with the combined totals of all 12 dives counting towards final standings. Her total combined score for the day (535.00) finished 18th overall

- During this week's three-day meet, the top 18 from prelims each day qualify for evening finals. The top six combined scores from prelims and finals in three-meter diving qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
- Four out of this year's three-meter qualifiers from Zone A to the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships came from Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights' Katarina Hoffman won in 714.85, while Rutgers' Holly Prasanto earned the sixth and final nationals spot in 626.05.
- This year, it took 274.80 points to qualify for the Zone A Diving final on three-meter springboard. Elizabeth Kaye of Virginia the top qualifying score today with 337.05.
- Today's event featured 71 divers. The divers represent schools from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
- Icard is the first Lady Flame since Freece in 2022 to qualify for an NCAA Zones final. Freece made the three-meter Zones final in both 2021 and 2022, earning a program-best finish of ninth at the 2021 NCAA Zone Championships.
- Icard's 12-dive score of 533.35 is the second-best three-meter 12-dive score in program history, trailing only Maddie Freece's 535.00 from the 2021 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
- This is the seventh straight NCAA postseason appearance for Liberty's divers. The Lady Flames are attempting to send the first Liberty diver to compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
