
Men’s Tennis Taken Down 5-2 by Gardner-Webb

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team was unable to capitalize on its first home match in six contests, falling 5-2 to Gardner-Webb at the Liberty Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon.
The Bulldogs grabbed a commanding two matches in doubles while Liberty was leading 5-4 in the third match when the doubles point was clinched.
Liberty evened the match twice, first by Carl Roothman picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win on court two. Gardner-Webb responded on court three but Chase Robinson answered back with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph in the No. 5 singles match.
Gardner-Webb sealed the match with three consecutive singles matches to finish the day. The Bulldogs' Alexandre Bergeron secured the match-clinching fourth point, topping Siwanat Auytayakul 7-6, 6-0 on court four.
In the final match of the day, Matija Samardzic battled for three sets in the No. 6 singles match. The sophomore was the only Flame to reach three sets but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 against Boyd Schreiber.
The Flames fall to 14-15 all-time against the former Big South rival and move to 2-3 at home this season.
