Liberty senior middle blocker Madison Blane will try out for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team this week in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Blane will be one of over 160 players looking to showcase their abilities at the U.S. Women's National Team Open Program, which will be held this Friday through Sunday at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The WNT Open Program is a development opportunity used for potential selection to both the U.S. Women's National Team and age-group national teams of USA Volleyball's National Team Development Program (NTDP). In 2025, members of the U.S. Women's National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, Pan American Cup and NORCECA Final Six.
The 2025 age-group national teams to be organized by the NTDP include Women's U21 (athletes born in 2005 and younger) and Girls U19 (athletes born in 2007 and younger) competing at their respective Pan American Cups and FIVB World Championships. New in 2025, the NTDP will organize a Women's U23 National Team (athletes born in 2003 and younger) that will train and compete at an international event in lieu of the Women's Collegiate National Team, which was a domestic-only training program.Â
Blane is the third Lady Flame to be invited to participate in national team tryouts, as Anna Gragg participated in the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team tryout and Casey Goodwin tried out the following year.
A native of Montgomery, Texas, Blane earned her third straight all-conference honor this season, being named to the CUSA All-Conference second team. She led the CUSA in blocks per set in conference play (1.43) while ranking third overall (32nd nationally) with 1.31 blocks per set. Her 153 blocks are ranked second all-time on Liberty's single-season, rally-scoring records list. Blane has been named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and five times in her career.       Â
