Liberty Falls 4-2 to Old Dominion in a Midweek Showdown

NORFOLK, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team (3-4) fell 4-2 on the road against Old Dominion (5-4) in Tuesday's in-state match up. Just one court remained playing when the Monarchs sealed the victory on court one.
The Monarchs jumped out to an early lead earning the doubles point with commanding wins on courts two and three. The Flames' No. 27 pair of Joaquim Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul went unfinished on court one while trailing 4-5.
Liberty didn't let the doubles momentum remain, taking four out of the six first sets in the singles round. Rodrigo Santiago Arraez earned the Flames' first point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four against Adam Majchrzak. Ernst Gouws followed, giving Liberty the 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win in the No. 5 slot.
Three of the remaining matches reached a deciding third set. The Monarchs secured the match-clinching fourth point on court one, as Cosme Rolland de Ravel completed the comeback against Joaquim Almeida, winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Chase Robinson had his match end unfinished against Aryen Saleh while up a break in the third set 6-3, 5-7, 2-1.
Tuesday's contest kicked off a stretch of eight consecutive road matches.

- With a strong showing on Tuesday, Arraez picked up his first victory in the No. 4 singles position (1-3). Arraez has showed strong singles play this spring with a 4-3 record.
- Gouws improves to 2-0 this season in the No. 5 position and 4-1 overall this spring.
- Tuesday's doubles round was the first this season that the Flames failed to secure one of the three doubles matches.
