
Flames Finish in 6th Place at The Bryson Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Flames secured their third top-10 finish of the fall season by finishing in sixth place at The Bryson Invitational on Wednesday.
Liberty posted its second-consecutive under-par team score to card an overall 12-under par 852 (288-280-284) at the Daniel Island Club – Ralston Creek Course (par 72, 7,446 yards).
The Flames finished one shot behind fifth-place South Carolina (13-under par 851) and two shots clear of seventh-place Cincinnati (10-under par 854).
Vanderbilt, who is ranked No. 3 in the country in the newly released Scoreboard by clippd national rankings, claimed its third tournament victory of the season with a winning score of 30-under par 834 (278-280-276).
No. 25 Wake Forest (280-284-277) and No. 34 Duke (281-280-280) shared second place with a 23-under par 841.
Liberty had four of its starting five golfers finish the event in red figures. Freshman Silas Haarer posted his second top-25 finish of his rookie season, pacing Liberty finishing tied for 21st place with a 3-under par 213 (71-72-70). He ranked second in the 84-man field, posting 41 pars during the 54-hole event.
Michael Lugiano finished one shot behind Haarer and was tied for 26th place with a 2-under 214 (71-69-74). The sophomore ranked second on Liberty's roster with 10 birdies.
Seniors Ike Joy (76-69-70) and Josh Ryan (75-70-70) shared 29th place with a 1-under par 215. Ryan led the Flames with 13 birdies, while Joy matched Lugiano with 10 birdies.
Vanderbilt's Ryan Downes claimed medalist honors with a winning score of 13-under par 203 (70-69-64).
The Flames will close out their four-event fall tournament schedule at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational. The event is hosted by USF this season and will be contested at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla., on Sunday and Monday.
