LYNCHBURG, Va. – After helping No. 7 Liberty to a BIG EAST road shutout win over Georgetown last weekend, Kyleigh Faust and Morena Giacosa have both been tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday afternoon.
Faust is being recognized on the honor roll for the first time this season and the second time in her career. She earned the same distinction two seasons ago (Oct. 31, 2023) and was a BIG EAST Freshman of the Week back in 2023 as well (Sept. 26, 2023). Giacosa garners her first career weekly award.
Through seven weeks of the season, the Lady Flames have earned 17 total weekly awards (two national, 15 BIG EAST) – two NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention selections, four defensive player of the week awards, three offensive player of the week honors, two freshman of the week accolades and six weekly honor roll selections.
Faust, a redshirt junior midfielder/defender, tallied the game-winning goal for the Lady Flames in a 1-0 road triumph at Georgetown, last Friday. Faust's tally came in the fourth quarter at the 46:41 mark on a penalty corner shot into the left side of the cage, assisted by Lou Combrinck and Maite Altamirano. It was Faust's first goal of the year, fourth of her career and first in nearly two years. Prior to last Friday's match, her last goal came against the Hoyas on Oct. 27, 2023 in a game played at Towson.
Giacosa, a freshman defender, helped Liberty record its sixth shutout of the year in the 1-0 blanking of Georgetown. A native of Rosario, Argentina, Giacosa excelled in her role in the win, helping the defensive unit limit the host Hoyas to only two total shots (zero on goal) in 60 minutes of action. Giacosa and Liberty have allowed only 10 total shots from their four opposition in the last four games (240 minutes). Liberty ranks No. 2 nationally and first in the BIG EAST in shutouts per game (0.55). The program record for shutouts in a single season is 10, set by the 2022 squad.
Faust, Giacosa and No. 7 Liberty (10-1) will face No. 3 Virginia (9-1) in a top-10 showdown, tonight at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.
