Cian and Murphy Garner Inclusion on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Martu Cian and Ella Murphy both garnered inclusion on the BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll following their performances during the opening weekend of the 2024 season.
This is Cian's fifth career appearance on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Murphy, a graduate transfer, is being recognized on the honor roll for the first time. Cian and Murphy helped Liberty to a pair of victories this past weekend at Kent State's Murphy-Mellis Field. The No. 11-ranked Lady Flames edged Indiana 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday and topped host Kent State 4-1 on Sunday.
Cian scored a team-best three goals over the weekend and notched her second career hat trick in the 4-1 triumph over the Kent State Golden Flashes. The senior forward scored the first, third and fourth goals of the game for Liberty. Her third goal, a reverse into the right side, put Liberty ahead 4-1 at the 43:03 mark.
Cian, who hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina, notched a career-high nine shots (eight on goal) versus Kent State. On Saturday against the Indiana Hoosiers, she tallied two shots on cage. Cian is up to 24 career goals and ranks No. 13 in school history for career goals.
Murphy, a defender from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of the 2-1 win over Indiana on Saturday afternoon in what was her first career appearance in a Liberty uniform. The goal came at the 75:27 mark from in front on a feed from Tuti Dell Anna.
On Sunday against Kent State, Murphy assisted on Cian's first quarter penalty corner goal. Murphy and the Lady Flames defensive unit yielded only two goals and 10 total shots in 135:27 of action across their first two games.
Cian, Murphy and No. 11 Liberty (2-0) will play their home opener on Sunday against No. 3 Virginia (1-0). Game time is 1 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field and can also be seen on ESPN+
