Flames Open Season With 6th Place Showing at Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The Flames wrapped up play in their season-opening event on Monday, finishing in a share of sixth place at the 2024 Rod Myers Invitational.
Liberty (284-292-290) shared sixth place with Princeton (292-290-284). Both programs carded a 2-over par 866 following three trips around the Duke University Golf Club.
NC State claimed the team title with a strong final day performance. The Wolfpack closed with 12-under par 276 to win the team title with an overall 22-under par 842 (288-278-276).
Tournament host Duke claimed the runner-up spot, finishing in second place with a 12-under par 852 (285-281-286).
The Flames placed two of their starting five golfers inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Evan Barbin led the way for Liberty as the junior finished tied for fifth place with a 6-under par 210 (70-70-70). Barbin ranked fourth in the 72-man field with 15 birdies and led the tournament in par-3 play (-4/2.67 scoring average).
Ike Joy finished tied for 10th place with a 3-under par 213 (69-72-72). The senior led the field with 43 pars during the 54-hole event and opened the event with his fifth career sub-70 round.
The shot of the day belonged to Liberty's Pascal Gunther who holed out for eagle from the fairway on the par-4, No. 16 hole (401 yards).
The Flames will return to the course on October 6-7 when they participate in the West Bay Collegiate Invitational. The two-day event is hosed by FGCU at the West Bay Club in Estero, Fla.
