Flames End Fall Schedule at Ka’anapali Classic
11/1/2024 9:38:00 AM | Men's Golf
The Flames will wrap up an unexpected, abbreviated fall schedule this weekend when they start play at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
The three-day, 54-hole event will once again be contested at the Ka'anapali Golf Club - Royal Ka'anapali Course (par 71, 6,700 yards) in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. Play gets underway on Saturday morning, 8:30 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. EST).
Liberty had two of its scheduled four fall tournaments canceled due to hurricanes around the state of Florida.
The Flames were midway through the first round of The Island at West Bay Club Collegiate Invitational on October 6 when the FGCU event in Estero, Fla. was halted due to rain and poor course conditions.
A week later, Liberty was scheduled to compete in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational, an event hosted by Michigan State in Vero Beach, Fla. However, the October 13-14 event was canceled before it even started.
Liberty is participating in this event for the third year in a row and the fifth time in program history (2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023).
Last year, the Flames finished the event in third place in the 20-team field, firing a 39-under par 813 (262-272-279).
The 813 was the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history, ranking only two strokes behind Liberty's 811 53-under par score that allowed the Flames to claim the 2023 ASUN Men's Golf Championship.
Josh Ryan paced the Flames at the event, finishing with the same score as he did during his freshman season. Ryan finished tied for fourth place with a 12-under par 201 (65-65-71), matching his career-low 54-hole total.
