Liberty Women’s Soccer Receives First-Ever National Ranking at No. 24

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Checking in at No. 24, the Liberty Lady Flames soccer team received its first-ever national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll released on Tuesday.
Last week, Liberty (7-0-1) topped No. 21 Virginia Tech 2-1 on the road on Thursday and played to a 1-1 draw at West Virginia on Sunday. The victory at Virginia Tech was the first-ever triumph over a ranked team in the program's history.
The Lady Flames have been the second-ranked team in the South Region for the past three weeks. Liberty was among the teams receiving votes in the two most recent national rankings released by United Soccer Coaches on Aug. 27 and Sept. 3.
The Lady Flames are one of nine teams with seven victories and one of seven programs with an unbeaten record. In its past 12 contests, Liberty is 10-1-1 with its only loss coming in the 2023 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, 2-1 to No. 4 seed Georgia.
Liberty is outscoring its opponents 18-6 this season. Liberty leads Conference USA in multiple categories including total goals (18), points (52), corner kicks per game (6.38) and goal differential (+12). Among individuals, Halle Engle paces CUSA in game-winning goals (3), goals per game (0.75) and shots per game (3.63).
United Soccer Coaches college rankings, released every Tuesday during the regular season, are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for championship selection. To be eligible for consideration in United Soccer Coaches college rankings, a school must be a member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program.
No. 24 Liberty (7-0-1) prepares for its final non-conference games of the season on the road at George Mason (2-3-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and against UNCG (1-4-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
