Magee Receives CUSA Defensive Player of the Week After Opening Week

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior defender Kayla Magee was recognized as the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The Lady Flame played a pair of 90-minute contests as Liberty collected a road victory at High Point (3-1 final) on Thursday and a shutout triumph hosting Old Dominion (2-0 final) on Sunday to begin the 2024 season.

Magee led the defensive effort, allowing a single goal in the two-game stretch. She was the only Lady Flame in either contest to play a full 90 minutes. Magee recorded two shots against High Point.

The recognition is the first of her career. Liberty led CUSA last season with four athletes receiving the Defensive Player of the Week award.

Magee transferred to Liberty this offseason after two seasons at South Carolina. She played in all five of Liberty's spring games.

Liberty prepares for another in-state foe with VCU coming to Lynchburg on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from Osborne Stadium. Liberty hits the road this weekend to take on ETSU on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
