
Garner Tabbed a United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch for Forwards

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior forward Ivy Garner of the Liberty women's soccer team was named a United Soccer Coaches 2024 NCAA Division l Players to Watch – Forwards, the association announced Tuesday. Garner is the second Lady Flame to receive the recognition as goalkeeper Ainsley Leja was listed among goalkeepers on Aug. 6.
Garner was one of 48 forwards and one of 21 women from across the country recognized by United Soccer Coaches. She was one of seven juniors and the only member of Conference USA to receive the honor.
The Hillsborough, N.C. native was selected as the 2024 CUSA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year on Aug. 8 along with mention on the CUSA Preseason All-Conference team. Garner was named to the 2023 CUSA All-Conference first team and the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region first team following a standout 2023 season. She also received recognition on the 2023 CSC Academic All-District Women's Soccer team.
Garner led Liberty forwards with 16 points last season. She finished alongside Ava Goodman with six goals and was tied with Allie Hansford with four assists among forwards. Garner netted four game-winning goals and was second on the team with 39 shots, 19 on goal. She was named the CUSA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 17
The Players to Watch lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second-team All-Region players from 2023, who are scheduled to return for the 2024 season.
Garner and Liberty open the 2024 season at High Point on Thursday with a 6 p.m. kickoff at Vert Stadium. The Lady Flames host their home opener on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Old Dominion at Osborne Stadium. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
