BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Liberty Flames ground out a 10-7 victory over the Samford Bulldogs in a wild, non-conference contest Friday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Liberty took a 7-2 in the fifth inning, taking advantage of six walks to score six runs on one hit. Host Samford answered with five runs in the sixth to tie the contest.
Flames' relievers Ben Blair in the eighth and Cale Bolton in the ninth stranded Bulldog runners at third base with one out to send the game to extra innings, where Liberty struck for three in the 10th.
Back-to-back two-out RBI singles by catcher Macaddin Dye and left fielder Brayden Horton gave the Flames the lead for good.
Dye had two hits and two RBI, while Horton had two hits and an RBI. Third baseman Cam Foster also had two hits for the Flames, including his seventh home run of the season.
Liberty snaps a five-game losing skid and improves to 18-23 on the season. Samford drops to 26-15.
