GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Liberty's Katie Urbine (women's pole vault – 13-9.25) and Reese Webster (women's 200 – 23.23) each posted the No. 2 mark in program history in their event, headlining the Flames' successful Friday at the Florida Relays.
Women's Day 1 Recap
Urbine set a Liberty freshman pole vault record for the second time in seven days, eclipsing her mark of 13-5.75 from Saturday's Bob Davidson Team Challenge at High Point. She tied Auburn's Alyssa Quinones-Mixon for second place in the competition, trailing only Charlotte All-American Riley Felts.
Urbine's first-attempt clearance at 13-9.25 established a new lifetime best, improving upon the 13-9 effort which won the 2023 Pennsylvania 3A state title. She is now tied for No. 2 in program history with current assistant Taylen (Langin) Rey.
Teammate Mia Bowers also finished inside the pole vault's top 10, sharing eighth place with a first-attempt success at 12-5.5.
Competing in her first outdoor individual event as a Lady Flame, Webster picked up right where she left off during the indoor season. She raced to sixth place in the women's 200 with a lifetime-best and wind-legal 23.23 clocking. That trails only Isis Brooks' ASUN-winning 23.09 time from 2023 on Liberty's all-time chart and will earn Webster a place on the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round starting line.
Paola Bueno got the Lady Flames' Friday off to a strong start with a season-best 206-1 performance for third place in the women's hammer. It marked the sophomore's best-ever mark in a collegiate competition and a top-20 distance nationally this season. She threw a program-record 209-4 at the 2023 Mexican Championship last summer.
Addilae Watts came in ninth in a deep women's javelin competition with a personal-best 155-7 effort. That moves the first-year Lady Flame up to No. 4 in program history.
Meanwhile, Patasha Bryan added six feet to her javelin best, stretching the measuring tape to 135-8 for 13th place.
Making her outdoor season debut, Makenzy Mizera long jumped 19-7 for 10th place in the event's open section. Rebecca Allen followed in 19th with an outdoor personal-best 18-11.25.
Racing the 400 hurdles for the first time at Liberty, Ahvon Mitchell dropped her personal best from 1:04.04 to 1:02.45 to win her heat.
Men's Day 1 Recap
Two more Liberty throwers are bound for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet following Friday's men's hammer competition where John Hicks was the runner-up (season-best 213-11) and Kellen Kimes followed in fourth (personal-best 203-5).
Kimes, who has now improved from 193-0 to 198-1 to 203-5 at his first three collegiate hammer competitions, is knocking on the door of the Liberty freshman record. Hicks owns that mark with his 204-10 performance at the 2021 ASUN meet.
Six days after clocking a program-record 10.18 100, Omari Lewis lowered his 200 personal best to 20.91 with the assistance of a friendly 3.3 m/s tailwind. That earned a 13th-place finish in the half-lap event.
Ben Shughart (210-4) and Ethan Mylin (199-8) both recorded their best javelin marks of the young season to place eighth and 10th, respectively.
Jacob Torres paced the Flames' trio of men's 400 hurdlers in 21st place, clocking a season-best 53.26.
