Latham Wins Hornet Open Women’s Hammer

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Efe Latham won the women's hammer, highlighting a light opening day of activity at the Hornet Open, Friday at Dr. Jack M. Toms Track.
Latham's very first attempt measured a personal-best 174-7. That turned out to be her best effort of the day and held off Mount Olive's Adrienne Crawford by a foot for the event victory.
Latham shattered her previous best mark of 165-9, set in 2022 during her time competing for Barton County Community College.
The Lady Flames also recorded a podium finish in Friday's other women's event, the javelin. Mackenzie Ballivian moved up from sixth place to third in round six with a 110-10 heave.
Competing unattached, Liberty decathlete Hunter Bleam came in fifth in the men's javelin with a throw of 145-4.

Liberty will wrap up its week of competition on Saturday at both the Florida Relays and Hornet Open. The Flames' first event of the day will be the Florida Relays open men's discus, slated for a 9 a.m. start.
