Big 2nd Quarter Propels Middle Tennessee Past Liberty in CUSA Title Game

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 1 seed Middle Tennessee used a big second quarter to break things open on its way to a second consecutive CUSA Women's Basketball Championship title, Saturday afternoon at Propst Arena. The Lady Raiders outscored No. 2 seed Liberty 22-9 during the pivotal stanza, leading to a 67-51 victory.
Four MTSU (29-4) starters scored in double figures, led by Anastasiia Boldyreva with 21. Tournament MVP Savannah Wheeler added 15 points and nine assists as the Lady Raiders won their 19th game in a row, completing an unbeaten CUSA regular season and tournament run.
Liberty's first season in CUSA ends at 18-16 with a loss in a second tournament championship game in as many years (ASUN in 2023). The Lady Flames got a huge game from all-tournament team member Bella Smuda (21 points, 15 rebounds) and 11 tallies from fellow all-tournament team pick Asia Boone. However, the Lady Flames' hot three-point shooting from the first two games of the tournament went cold on Saturday (5-of-22 for 22.7 percent).
After starting the year 6-13, Liberty went 12-3 the rest of the way with all three setbacks coming to MTSU.

- Hess extended her Liberty single-season record to 76 made triples, and the team finished with a program single-season record 230 three-pointers on the year.
- Jordan Hodges notched a pair of assists on Saturday, finishing with 153 this season (No. 5 in program history). She played 1,084 minutes this year, just two off Reagan Miller's single-season mark from 2011-12.
