Liberty Track Headed to Charlotte for Outdoor Season Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty will begin its 2024 outdoor track & field season at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. Events are slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
This will mark the first of three consecutive weekends Liberty sends athletes to meets in North Carolina.

High temperatures in Charlotte are expected to reach the mid to upper-70s during all three days of competition. However, Friday could see some rain showers and gusty wind.
First-Time Flames
A number of talented athletes are slated to make their first appearance in a Liberty uniform this week.
Abilene Christian transfer Amy Ambelang is entered in the women's 100, where she boasts a PR of 11.90. She helped ACU win the WAC 4 x 100 relay title in 2022.
Addilae Watts won the Horizon League women's javelin competition as a Youngstown State freshman a year ago. Her top mark of 151-1 earned Watts a trip to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet.
Freshman Sean Aiken is set to run the men's 1,500 and 3K in the Queen City. He posted times of 4:14.88 (mile) and 8:29.06 (3K) while competing unattached indoors.
Freshman Kellen Kimes will throw the hammer on Friday. A year ago, he threw the high school hammer a Michigan state-record 223-4 to place second at Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Jacob Torres is entered in the men's 400 hurdles this week. Competing for Occidental, he clocked a personal-best time of 51.90 last season and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Grayson sits No. 2 on Liberty's all-time list with her 158-6 effort from 2021.

Other Liberty athletes will remain in the Hill City for the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational, March 22-23 at the University of Lynchburg.
