LYNCHBURG, Va. – Staying close to home, Liberty earned three first-place finishes at Randolph's WildCat Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday afternoon. Hunter Bleam (141-4) took home the men's discus title, while freshmen Wallace Tupper II (personal-best 54.67) and Adelle Schlotterback (1:05.76) swept the men's and women's 400 hurdles crowns.
Bleam's discus triumph actually came on Liberty's campus, Friday afternoon. He catapulted from third place to first with a 141-4 effort in round six. Heading to Randolph on Saturday, Bleam reached 44-6.75 in the shot put to finish as the WildCat Invitational runner-up for the second year in a row.
Tupper II and Schlotterback each won their 400 hurdles competitions in convincing fashion, one day after competing in the same event at the Virginia Challenge. Tupper II's 54.67 clocking cut a second off his previous personal best, while Schlotterback captured her second 400 hurdles title in as many weeks. The reigning CUSA Women's Freshman of the Week previously took top honors at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic on April 11.
Marshall Toney rounded out the Flames' podium finishers, taking third in the men's triple jump at 43-10.
Sophia Mast crossed the finish line fourth in the women's 800 (2:23.67), a day after lowering her 1,500 personal best to 4:45.88 at the Virginia Challenge.
Competing unattached, Liberty freshman Emily Norris was Friday's women's javelin champion with a mark of 136-2.
