
Liberty Vaults Into 1st Place with Record-Breaking Day 2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Liberty vaulted into first place with an outstanding showing on Thursday, the second day of the 2024 Atlantic Sun Swimming & Diving Championships, held at Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
The Lady Flames leapfrogged Queens in team standings with 472.5 points after outscoring the Royals 269-190 today. Queens is in second with 406 points, followed by FGCU (350.5) and UNC Asheville (329).

Tomorrow's third day of the ASUN Championships begins at 10 a.m. with prelims of the 100 backstroke and also includes heats of the 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 800 freestyle relay.

- 400 medley relay – 2nd place in 3:37.10 (Abbie Shaw (53.97), Heather Gardner (1:02.58), Kamryn Cannings (51.20), Sydney Stricklin (49.35))
- Liberty posted 13 top-eight finishes on Thursday night, including eight podium finishes and two victories. For the meet, Liberty has earned 25 A Finals, 14 podiums and three event victories.
- Freshman Kamryn Cannings won the 100 fly in a program, meet and conference record 51.26. That time ranks in the top 10 nationally. She had broken Jess Reinhardt's (2014) meet record (52.14) in prelims when she swam 52.10. Cannings then broke Reinhardt's conference record of 51.72 in the A Final at night. Prior to tonight, Reinhardt in 2014 was the last Lady Flame to win a conference title in the 100 fly.
- For the second year in a row, Liberty finished 2-3 in the 400 IM. Grace Isaacs swam an NCAA B cut time of 4:15.82 to earn runner-up honors, while Genna Joyce clocked 4:19.48 for third. It marked Isaacs' third career conference podium finish, with all three coming in the 400 IM. Tonight was Joyce's fourth career conference medal, including three years in a row in this event.
- Shelby Kahn earned her fourth career conference podium finish and second of the meet, finishing third in the 200 free in 1:47.71. Sydney Stricklin swam 1:47.80, good for fourth place.
- For the second night in a row, Liberty's divers went 1-2-3. Mary Herndon claimed her first career conference individual title, coming from behind to edge teammate Maddie Freece for the one-meter title (269.95 to 269.75). Freece, who won the three-meter crown last night, has earned seven career conference medals. Meagan Tuohy claimed third place, her first career podium.
- The Lady Flames finished second in the 400 medley relay in 3:37.10, being edged out by Queens (3:36.93).
- Liberty's 400 medley relay from tonight is ranked sixth in program history at 3:37.10.
- Isaacs became the third Lady Flame all-time to break 4:16.00 in the 400 IM, as she is now ranked third in program history (4:15.82). Joyce (4:19.48) is now fifth on the program's all-time top 10 performers list in the 400 IM.
- Cannings now holds the Lady Flames' program records in both the 200 freestyle (1:45.67) and 100 fly (51.26).
