
Liberty in 2nd Place After Day 1 at ASUN Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Liberty, the five-time defending conference champion, sits in second place after day one of the 2024 ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships, held at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Queens also led after day one of the 2023 CCSA Championships, before Liberty overtook the lead for good on day three on the way to its fifth title in a row. The Royals lead with 216 points, followed by 203.5 by Liberty. FGCU sits in third (162.5), followed by UNC Asheville (136).
This year's ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships feature just A and B Finals, after the last several CCSA Championships had A, B and C Finals.

Tomorrow's action on day two of the 2024 ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships begins at 10 a.m. with exhibition heats of the 200 freestyle relay. Thursday's program will also feature the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, one-meter diving and 400 medley relay.

- Liberty posted 12 top-eight finishes on Wednesday night, including six podium finishes and one event victory.
- Junior Shelby Kahn, last year's runner-up in the 500 free, finished third in 4:52.04. It was her third career conference podium finish.
- Junior Kate Baker charged hard in the final length of the pool to earn her first career conference medal, placing third in the 200 IM A Final in a lifetime-best 2:01.52. Classmate Grace Isaacs also swam a lifetime best, 2:01.72, finishing fourth.
- Senior Maddie Freece won three-meter diving, qualifying for NCAA Zone Championships with a score of 292.70. It was her sixth career conference podium finish and fourth conference individual event victory.
- Liberty is the first team to go 1-2-3 in women's three-meter diving in the combined history of the CCSA and ASUN Championships. Freshmen Caroline Stamps (270.95) and Shannon Icard (269.40) took second and third, respectively. The Lady Flames posted an astounding six A Finalists in three-meter, as Mary Herndon finished fifth, Meagan Touhy took sixth and Grace Gooding claimed eighth.
- The Lady Flames finished the session by placing second in the 200 medley relay.
Historically Speaking
- This is the fourth time that Liberty has competed at a conference championship meet at Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center. The Lady Flames claimed their first (2014), third (2020) and sixth (2023) CCSA Championship titles at this facility.
- Baker and Isaacs became the sixth and seventh swimmers in program history to break 2:02.00 in the 200 IM. Baker's 2:01.52 ranks fifth on the program's all-time top 10 performers list in the event, while Isaacs' 2:01.72 is ranked seventh.
- The Lady Flames' 200 medley relay time of 1:39.55 is seventh on the program's all-time top 10 list in the event.
