
3-Run 2nd Sends Notre Dame Past Liberty 3-0

Notre Dame scored three unearned runs in the top of the second, which proved to be enough offense as the Fighting Irish blanked Liberty 3-0 on Sunday at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
The Irish finished the weekend with a 3-2 record, including wins in each of their final two games. The Lady Flames (1-4) lost for the fourth straight game after opening the season with a 3-1, walk-off win over St. John's on Friday.

Turning Point
- Notre Dame took advantage of a one-out error in the top of the second to score the game's lone three runs. After Winchell reached on an error, Grimm hit an RBI double. Later, with two outs, Kloss drove in a pair with an RBI single.
- Notre Dame outhit Liberty 6-2, while both teams committed one error. The Irish left seven runners on base competed to four stranded for the Lady Flames.
- Alexis Laudenslager (2-1) and Micaela Kastor combined for the two-hit shutout. Laudenslager pitched the first four innings, allowing two hits, while Kastor earned a three-inning save. Both pitchers walked one and struck out three.
- Liberty's Tyler Oubre (0-1), making her first career start in the circle, allowed three unearned runs on four hits, striking out one in two innings. Kaylan Yoder pitched five innings of two-hit relief, walking two and fanning two. Â
- Carlli Kloss drove in two runs for Notre Dame, while Karina Gaskins and Emily Tran both registered two hits.
- Liberty's Savannah Jessee (1-for-2) and Rachel Roupe (1-for-3) combined for the team's two hits.Â
- Liberty is making its second appearance all-time at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, as the Lady Flames opened the 2020 season at this event. The Lady Flames also went 1-4 that weekend, with their lone win coming against nationally-ranked Ole Miss.
- Notre Dame leads the all-time series in softball against Liberty, 6-2. The Lady Flames had won the last meeting, 6-3, on March 5, 2022 in Lynchburg, Va.
- Liberty received votes in both the NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll and USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 in preseason rankings. Notre Dame was listed among others receiving votes in the preseason USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
- Dating back to last year, Roupe has extended her hitting streak to eight games. Also, prior to a lineout in her second at bat today, Roupe had reached base safely in her last seven plate appearances, including 6-for-6 while adding a walk.
- Liberty's Kerissa Howell (pinch hitter) and Aubry Norris (pinch runner) both made their collegiate debuts today.
- Oubre made her first career start after appearing in five games without a start last year for Louisiana. This was the third straight game in which Liberty's pitcher was making her first career start. Yesterday, freshman Katie Love started against Clemson and classmate Kaylan Yoder drew the starting pitching assignment versus Missouri.Â
