
Liberty Charges Out to Day 1 Lead at TYR '85 Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty leads the 2024 TYR '85 Invite after the first day of competition, Friday at Liberty Natatorium.
The Lady Flames have scored 925.5 points to lead the five-team field. Ohio (878.5) sits in second, followed by Campbell (379), Saint Francis (Pa.) (362) and California (Pa.) (218).

Tomorrow's morning prelims start at 10 a.m. with the 100 fly. The morning session will also have prelims of the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and one-meter diving. The 6 p.m. evening finals will begin with the 200 medley relay and end with the 800 freestyle relay.

- Liberty won two events tonight, the 200 IM (Sydney Stricklin) and the 400 medley relay. Ohio claimed victory in the 200 free relay, the 500 free and the 50 free.
- The Lady Flames went 1-2-3-4 in the 200 IM, with Sydney Stricklin (1:59.77), Emily Gallion (2:03.06), Taylor Stasny (2:03.22) and Kate Baker (2:03.90).
- Eden Troxell finished second in the 500 free (4:56.55), followed in order by Shelby Kahn (4:58.17) and Layne Jones (4:58.91).
- Aly Bozzuto was edged out for the win by Ohio's Zita Szoke (22.72 to 22.83) in the 50 free, with Natalie Colarossi (23.61) finishing fourth. It marked the first time in her collegiate career that Bozzuto did not win a race.
- Liberty finished 2-3-3 in three-meter diving, led by Chloe LaCount's NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 283.65. Shannon Icard and Mary Herndon tied for third with 260.30 points each.
- The Lady Flames won the 400 medley relay by nearly 2.5 seconds, finishing first in 3:37.89.
- Sydney Stricklin swam a lifetime-best 1:59.65 in 200 IM prelims this morning, becoming the third Lady Flame all-time to break two minutes in the 200 individual medley. She is tied with Chloe Harris for second all-time at Liberty in the event.
- Stricklin also set a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke, leading off the 400 medley relay in 54.22. That time is fifth in program history, passing Eva Suggs, who was in attendance tonight.
- Bozzuto's 22.83 in the 50 free tonight ranks eighth all-time on the program's top 10 performers list.
- Liberty made a charge at its 400 medley relay record, and despite finishing just 1.16 seconds off of the program record, its time of 3:37.89 ranks seventh on the school's all-time top 10 performers list.
