- Liberty (2-2) will visit Towson (0-5) for the first time in 29 years, Sunday afternoon in the Tigers' 2024-25 home opener.Â
- Towson edged the Lady Flames 73-70 in overtime last season (Dec. 4, 2023), halting Liberty's 16-game winning streak at Liberty Arena. That marked the Tigers' fourth consecutive win over the Lady Flames and the third out of 10 all-time head-to-head meetings to require overtime.
- The Lady Flames are looking to bounce back from a 109-93 loss in a Nov. 16 shootout at Tennessee. It marked Liberty's most points ever scored in a loss.
- Preseason All-CUSA pick Bella Smuda matched her career high of 27 points against the Lady Vols. She hails from Exton, Pa., approximately 85 miles away from Towson.
- Avery Mills earned her first career CUSA Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, following a career-high 19-point outburst at Tennessee.
- Liberty ranks among the nation's top 30 teams for both three-point FG% (44.0) and triples per game (9.3). Preseason All-CUSA performer Emma Hess leads the way with 11 triples at a 52.4 percent clip.Â
- Sunday's matinee will mark Towson's 2024-25 home opener after playing its first five contests on the road. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames will visit Towson for the first time since Feb. 6, 1995, when the Tigers called the Towson Center home.
- Towson has won four straight meetings with the Lady Flames, and Liberty is seeking its first victory in the head-to-head series since March 4, 1994. That day, the host Lady Flames completed a season sweep of Towson with a 71-59 decision at the Vines Center.
- Six of the previous 10 Liberty-Towson matchups have been decided by 10 points or fewer, with three of them going to overtime. That includes the Tigers' 73-70 overtime triumph at Liberty Arena last year (Dec. 4, 2023).
- Towson has won 20+ games during each of the last three seasons and was picked third in the CAA this year. However, the Tigers are missing preseason All-CAA first team performer Patricia Anumgba for the season due to injury.
- Sunday's game marks something of a homecoming for Liberty's Bella Smuda. Her hometown of Exton, Pa., is located approximately 85 miles northeast of Towson.
- Seeking its first road win of the year, Liberty is 213-127 (.626) on the road under Carey Green. The Lady Flames will next fly to Phoenix for a Wednesday matinee at Grand Canyon.
- Liberty is 21-42 all-time vs. Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opponents (at the time of meeting), including 17-20 under Carey Green.
- The Lady Flames went 0-2 versus CAA foes last season, falling 56-47 at North Carolina A&T and dropping a 73-70 (OT) home contest to Towson.
- Liberty is scheduled to face the same two CAA foes in 2024-25, traveling to Towson on Sunday and hosting North Carolina A&T on Dec. 7.
- This is the 26th time in the last 27 seasons Liberty has faced at least one CAA opponent. The lone exception was the 2020-21 campaign, when a scheduled visit to William & Mary was cancelled at the last minute due to COVID.
- Current CAA member Delaware will be joining Liberty in Conference USA starting with the 2025-26 season.
- Sunday will mark Liberty's 30th all-time contest in Maryland, and the Lady Flames are 13-16 in the Old Line State.
- Liberty's last visit to Maryland was a memorable one. The Lady Flames defeated Bowling Green 76-72 on Nov. 28, 2021 at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, marking Carey Green's 500th career win.
- Both of the Lady Flames' NCAA Tournament victories in program history came in Maryland (vs. Penn State and DePaul in 2005 in College Park).
- Points came in bunches during Liberty's most recent outing, a 109-93 loss at Tennessee on Nov. 16.
- Liberty's 93 points were the Flames' most since Feb. 24, 2018 (95-57 win at Charleston Southern) and the most the Lady Flames have ever scored in a loss.
- Bella Smuda matched her career high of 27 points, while freshman Avery Mills (19 points) more than doubled her total scoring output from her first three collegiate appearances (eight points).
