LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sierra Maxwell, a high-scoring guard from California, has signed with the Liberty women's basketball team for the 2025-26 academic year.
Maxwell will join Asia Boone, another impressive scorer from southern California, on next year's roster.
Sierra Maxwell (G, 5-10, Menifee, Calif.)
Maxwell poured in 28.5 ppg as a junior at Heritage High School, headlined by a career-high 56-point outburst in a win over Temescal. She also grabbed 8.2 rpg while earning first team all-league recognition for the third year in a row.
Maxwell, who has already reached the 1,000-point milestone for her high school career, went for 21.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg during her sophomore campaign.
"Signing with Liberty University is a dream come true," exclaimed Maxwell. "I'm excited to start this new chapter and grow both on and off the court."
What They're Saying About Sierra Maxwell
"56 points in a game! That speaks volumes about Sierra's ability to score at all levels along with her high IQ and understanding of the game of basketball. She has worked relentlessly developing the combo guard skills from excellent fundamental coaching. Sierra's talent and versatility allow her to play many positions during a game. Her high character is a bonus addition to our family and team culture. We are excited to have Sierra as a Lady Flame!"
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"Sierra is the type of player you build a team around. Her talent is undeniable, but it's her team work ethic, mindset and unselfishness that make her truly one of the greatest. On the court, she elevates everyone around her. She is a leader without having to say a word. It has been a pleasure witnessing her leave her legacy in high school, and I am excited to see everything she will accomplish at Liberty. Sierra doesn't just play the game. She redefines it."
Deanna Meijer, Heritage High School Girls' Basketball Head Coach
"Sierra is a diamond in the rough. Having placed a few girls at the Division I level, there was no doubt in my mind she could play at that level when I first saw her skillset. What impressed me the most was her work ethic and coachability. Sierra is a complete student of the game with the passion and willingness to compete behind it. I was honored to be her coach for just a short part of her amazing journey. I have no doubt she will continue to flourish on and off the court."
Derrick O'Neil, Prospects on Deck AAU Girls' Basketball Coach
"Sierra is a great student-athlete with a silky smooth shot and a quick release. She's a natural point guard with a high basketball IQ. Sierra is a true leader on and off the court who leads by example. She isn't afraid of holding herself accountable, as well as her teammates. Sierra can score at all three levels and loves to rebound as well. She is a solid defensive player who loves the challenge of guarding an opponent's best player. As a point guard, she can facilitate and make great decisions within the offense. Sierra has an outstanding work ethic and never misses practice or training sessions. She is an awesome teammate and quality person who will be a great addition to Liberty University. She is very coachable and a pleasure to be around."
