Flames Set Off for Georgia Tech Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team prepares for its final fall tournament as a team at the Georgia Tech Invite this weekend beginning on Friday. The Flames plan to send seven players to the eight-team event with multiple Power 4 programs including four SEC schools.

Six programs enter the event with a Preseason ITA National Ranking. Including No. 56 Liberty, the event hosts No. 13 Mississippi State, No. 21 Alabama, No. 35 Georgia Tech, No. 42 Vanderbilt and No. 63 Ole Miss. Liberty will also be joined by Georgia State and Yale at the event hosted by Georgia Tech at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

The Flames prepare to play every player on the roster with the exception of Joaquim Almeida.

Schedule: Each day will start with doubles at 9 a.m. and singles at 10 a.m.

Tournament Breakdown

Liberty participated in the Georgia Tech Invite last fall (Nov. 3-5). The Flames have just three returning players who participated in the event last year.
Matija Samardzic currently leads the team with a 4-1 singles record. As a team, Liberty is 18-22 in singles this fall.
The Flames' doubles teams have combined for a 12-7 record. The pair of Joaquim Almeida (not playing at GT) and Siwanat Auytayakul pace the team with a 5-1 record after going 5-0 at the ITA Atlantic Regionals to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA individual Championships.
