
Roothman, Flames Wrap Play at Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. – Carl Roothman led the Flames with an overall 5-1 record (3-0 singles, 2-1 doubles) as the Flames conclude their time at the Georgia Tech Invite this weekend. Liberty combined for an overall 16-14 mark at the eight-team event with a 13-8 singles record and a 3-6 doubles mark.
At the event, No. 56 Liberty mainly matched up in singles with No. 42 Vanderbilt (3-2), No. 13 Mississippi State (2-3) and No. 63 Ole Miss (3-2). The Flames went 1-0 in matchups against No. 35 Georgia Tech, No. 21 Alabama, Georgia State and Yale. Additionally, Liberty was 1-1 in singles matchups against No. 35 Georgia Tech.
Five Flames, Roothman, Matija Samardzic, Rodrigo Santiago Arraez, Trey Stinchcomb and Ernst Gouws, picked up at least two singles victories.
Roothman, a transfer from Oklahoma State, was undefeated in matchups against opponents from Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Alabama. Paired with Gouws in doubles, the duo went 2-1 with triumphs over Mississippi State and and Ole Miss.
Chase Robinson and Trey Stinchcomb were the only other Liberty pair with a victory, topping Vanderbilt's Tighe Brunetti and Jack Ingram 8-7 (8-6).
Joaquim Almeida was the only Flame not to participate over the weekend's event.
The event was Liberty's final fall event as a team. Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul prepare for the NCAA Individual Championships as a doubles pair in Waco, Texas beginning on Nov. 19 in Waco, Texas.
