LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames will tangle with the Houston Christian Huskies and the Incarnate Word Cardinals at Osborne Stadium to wrap up the Ohio Valley Conference regular season this weekend. The two matches will play a key role in determining seeding for the upcoming OVC Men's Soccer Championship, Nov. 10-16 in Edwardsville, Ill.
Having already qualified for the tournament field, Liberty (7-6-1, 5-3 OVC, 15 points) will host Houston Christian (7-5-4, 5-1-2 OVC, 17 points) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Osborne Stadium. The third-place Flames will enter the contest two points behind the second-place Huskies in the conference standings. With a victory, Liberty would move a point ahead of HCU and into second place, with one game remaining for a first-round bye in the conference tournament. In addition, the Flames will hold a tiebreaker over the Huskies as they will have beaten them twice this season. Liberty won 1-0 at HCU on Oct. 6.
Sunday, the Flames will conclude their regular season by hosting the Incarnate Word Cardinals (4-4-5, 2-2-4 OVC, 10 points) at Osborne Stadium. Match time is scheduled for Noon. UIW begins the weekend six points behind Liberty and can still pass the Flames in the standings with two wins and two Liberty losses. The Flames defeated the Cardinals 2-0 in San Antonio, Texas earlier this season.
