Almeida, Autayakul Reach Semifinals at the M15 Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After claiming the ITA Atlantic Regional Doubles title on Monday, Liberty's pair of Joaquim Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul went 2-1 at the M15 Winston-Salem this week. The duo is preparing for the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas after receiving an automatic bid to the event with their doubles title at the regional tournament.
The duo improved to 7-2 together this fall after going 5-0 at the ITA Atlantic regional last week. The two began the event with a three-set, 6-4, 4-6 1-0 (2) victory over Spencer Gray and Vasco Leote Prata. The next day, the pair bested Wake Forest's Joaquin Guilleme and Nikola Parichkov 7-6 (6), 6-1.
Their seven-match winning streak ended in the semifinal round facing Cooper Williams and Daniel Milavsky. The match was tightly contested throughout with a tiebreaker needed to determine each set. The Liberty pair dominated the first tiebreaker 7-0 but were edged 7-5 in the second set tiebreaker. The third set consisted of a ten-point tiebreaker with the Liberty foes taking a 6-7 (0), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (6) triumph.

Almeida participated in singles at the event after not playing singles at the 2024 ITA Atlantic Regional. The senior went 2-1 after entering the event in the qualifying draw. Almeida topped Wake Forest's Martin Masev 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (1) and UNCW's Joe Wayand 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the main draw. Matched up against Aleksa Ciric and valiantly battled to a three-set 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-5 defeat.
