EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – The SIUE Cougars broke a 1-1 tie with two late goals to defeat the Liberty Flames 3-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference match at Ralph Korte Stadium Sunday afternoon.
In a tightly played contest, Jacob Bilyeu scored the rebound off a deflection of a free kick in the 78th minute to break a 1-1 tie, giving the host Cougars the lead.
After SIUE took a 1-0 lead early in the first half, Liberty tied the match just before halftime. Perry Blay's cross hit off a Cougar defender and into the goal to tie the contest at 1-1 during the 42nd minute.
Liberty falls to 5-5-1 overall and 3-2 in OVC. The match ends a four-game conference road swing for the Flames. SIUE moves to 7-3-2 overall and remains unbeaten in OVC play at 5-0.
