MACOMB, ILL. – The Western Illinois Leathernecks scored during the 11th minute to slip past the Liberty Flames 1-0 Thursday afternoon at John A. MacKenzie Alumni Soccer Stadium. The Flames' first setback in Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) play ends Liberty's three-game winning streak.
Despite outshooting host Western Illinois 16-6, Liberty could not find the net in the game. Leathernecks' goalkeeper Micah Ramirez turned away five Flames' shots, including Luke Eberle's opportunity during the final contest's final minute to seal the victory.
Western Illinois leading scorer Liam Gainey scored the game's lone goal and sixth of the season during the 11th minute in the victory.
Liberty falls to 5-5-1 overall and 3-1 in OVC. Western Illinois moves to 6-6-1 overall and 1-3 in the OVC.
