LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty head coach Lang Wedemeyer and the Lady Flames soccer team have announced the additions of defender Kayla Magee and goalkeeper Grace Workman via transfer for the 2024 season.
The two look to continue a tradition of adding impact student-athletes through transfers, following the contributions of D Bridie Herman (Tennessee) and MF Saydie Holland (Ole Miss) among others.
Magee and Workman prepare to help fill a void as Liberty is preparing for the graduation of more than eight key contributors from the 2023 season. The team previously announced the signing of 10 freshmen in November.
Kayla Magee | Defender | South Carolina
Magee attended Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The defender was an ECNL Player to Watch in 2018 and 2019, leading her club team to qualify for the North American Cup in 2018 and 2019 and the Georgia State Cup Champion in 2018.
In two seasons at South Carolina, Magee made five total appearances with two in 2022 and three in 2023. Magee was a part of two successful Gamecock squads, winning the SEC Tournament in 2022 with a 15-4-5 record and making it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. In 2023, Magee's 12-3-6 South Carolina team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Magee was included on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2022
Coach Wedemeyer: "Kayla is a dynamic, athletic defender that can play anywhere along the back line. She will bring in some great experience from her time playing in the SEC."
Grace Workman | Goalkeeper | Longwood
Workman attended J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. She helped guide her team to multiple state playoff runs, including securing the state title in 2019. Workman recorded 46 shutouts in her high school career.
Workman has attended Longwood the past two seasons, making a save in her one appearance against UMBC on Aug. 21.
Coach Wedemeyer: "Grace is an explosive and energetic goalkeeper. She has tremendous presence and uses her organization skills to mitigate goal-scoring opportunities."
