No. 9 Liberty Shuts Out Temple 3-0 to Stay Unbeaten in BIG EAST

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – No. 9 Liberty shut out Temple 3-0 in a BIG EAST Conference road game, Friday afternoon at Howarth Field.
With today's win, the Lady Flames improve to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in BIG EAST competition. This is the best 11-game start in program history for Liberty. Temple slips to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST following its second straight league loss.
Martu Cian, Jodie Conolly and Bethany Dykema scored goals in the victory. Milagros Arteta, Lexi Hosler and Kyleigh Faust collected assists. Senior goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen earned her fifth shutout of the season, making five saves on the day.

Turning Point
Liberty scored two goals in a four-minute span bridging the first and second quarters to take control of the game. The Lady Flames' Martu Cian found the back of the cage first, scoring on a reverse into the left side of the cage at the 12:59 mark for a 1-0 Liberty lead.
Early in the second quarter, Liberty scored on its second penalty corner of the game. Jodie Conolly ripped a shot through a crowded circle into the right side of the goal to provide a 2-0 advantage for the Lady Flames.
Liberty took a 2-0 lead into the half and maintained that lead through the third quarter behind strong play in goal from Azul Iritxity Irigoyen. Iritxity Irigoyen made three saves in the frame. The Lady Flames' Bethany Dykema scored on a penalty corner rebound at the 48:00 mark for the final goal of the match.

Liberty's next game will be a week from today against Villanova (5-4, 2-0 BIG EAST). The Lady Flames and Wildcats will meet next Friday in Lynchburg at 3 p.m.
