Huss and Swinehart Garner OVC Player of the Week Honors

LYNCHBURG, VA. – Forward Michael Huss was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week and defender Bryce Swinehart was selected as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league's office announced this morning.
The awards are the first Ohio Valley Conference honors that the Flames have garnered and are the first of his career for each player. Liberty joined the conference at the beginning of the season. The two played key roles in the Flames defeating Longwood 3-1 and USC Upstate 4-1 last week.
Huss scored a goal in each contest for 5-1 Liberty in the home victories this past week. The forward also had an assist in the Flames' win over USC Upstate on Saturday to finish the week with five points. In addition, he was pulled down in the 18-yard box early in the contest, leading to a penalty kick which gave the Flames a 1-0 advantage.
With a goal and an assist in Saturday's win, Huss collected his third multi-point game of his career. The Phoenix, Ariz., native enters the week second on the Flames and the OVC with four goals and nine points in 2023. The forward has scored a goal in four of Liberty's six games this season.
Swinehart was part of a defensive effort that gave up a combined two goals in the Flames' victories last week. The sophomore played a key role in Liberty shutting down both the Longwood and USC Upstate offensive efforts in the second half of both games. In Saturday's USC Upstate contest, the Flames shut down the Spartans attack in the final 45 minutes, allowing one shot.
In addition, Swinehart netted the game-winning goal in Liberty's 3-1 win over Longwood last Tuesday. The Charlotte, N.C., native ripped a shot from just outside the 18-yard box to give the Flames a 2-0 lead late in the first half. Overall, he has two goals for the year.
Huss, Swinehart and the rest of the Flames will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a non-conference match against the No. 20 Wake Forest Demon Deacons this evening. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
