Student-Athlete Q&A
What made Liberty University the right place for you to attend college/compete at the collegiate level?
I knew when Coach Kelly called and said that they aren’t only training us to be great soccer players but also champions for Christ.
Is there anything special you do pregame or postgame and why?
I listen to worship music a couple hours before every game and then once I get to the locker room, I’ll start getting my heart rate up and listening to faster more intense music or country music. I will take caffeine before every game and then I always tape my right hand and write "Be legendary" on the tape just as positive self-talk.
Who in your life inspires you and why are they such an inspiration?
My dad for sure because I see how hard he works for my family and he is a great role model for showing me how to be a great dad, husband, brother, and businessman. And then Devin Booker because he is just a dog and is where I got “Be legendary” from.
What is your most memorable athletic moment/accomplishment?
My sophomore year I scored a game winning goal shading wake forest and then we had a dog pile in front of their bench, so that was pretty special.
If you picked your jersey/uniform number, why is that number important to you?
I picked 23 because my favorite athlete ever is Michael Jordan, his mentality towards basketball was so intense and I admire how obsessed he was with his craft, and his mentality towards being the best he can be, so I’ve worn 23 since I started playing competitive soccer in 3rd grade.
Do you have any relatives who are playing or have played college or professional sports? (Names, relation to you, what/where they played)?
My grandpa was the worst college basketball player ever. He played for New Hampshire and he claims he was the last guy on the bench and at the time New Hampshire was the worst team in the worst conference. He would brag about that haha. My brother was the manager of Grand Canyon Basketball and led them to 2 NCAA tournaments.
Favorite meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner) and what is that special meal?
My favorite meal is definitely brisket, with baked beans and corn bread. Maybe throw some Mac and cheese in there but don’t need the extra calories usually. I also just love steak and potatoes which is a little healthier than brisket.
What is the first app you check on your phone each day?
During the NBA season the first app I look at is ESPN, and I’ll watch the Suns highlights since the game usually starts at 11 our time in Lynchburg. But outside of NBA season probably Instagram unfortunately.
What is your favorite hobby outside of athletics?
Definitely barbecuing. I love smoking different kinds of meats and sometimes I nail the meats and other times it turns to rubber.
Do you have any current pets (name and type of animal)?
My family has a dog named Bella, and now we have a cat we found on the street that my sister named Penelope which is a brutal name. And we have 2 bunnies, but I don’t know their names, I think one is Wilbur and Mable could be the other but I’m not sure.
Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Michael Jordan 1000000% and then Kobe after he passed away. I really enjoyed studying his game and mentality but I hated Kobe before that because he would always beat the Suns and Steve Nash. Kobe kind of passed his torch to Devin Booker and Kobe is the one who told Booker “Be Legendary” which is what I write on my hand tape every game.
What is your favorite possession and why?
My favorite possession is my bible, besides my phone because it’s the one thing I take everywhere with me.
What is your Go-To karaoke song?
I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift.
What is your dream vacation spot and why?
Phoenix, Arizona. It’s got everything I want. But I live there so I’d say a beach house in San Diego. San Diego is the best and it’s just beautiful and has nice weather.
