
Liberty Sweeps Army for 5th Straight Victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty battled back from early deficits in sets one and two, earning a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) over the host Army Black Knights, Friday at Gillis Field House.
The Lady Flames (5-0) pushed their season-opening winning streak to five matches with their fourth 3-0 sweep. Meanwhile, the Black Knights fell to 1-3 on the season in their first match of the Black Knights Invitational, which runs through Sunday.

- For the match, Liberty outhit Army .266-.167. The Lady Flames also held the advantage in kills (48-31), blocks (9-3) and digs (41-38). The hosts led 11-7 in blocks.
- Kamryn Bacus scored a match-high 13 kills while tying her career high with four aces. Julia Mangum set a new season high with 12 kills, hitting .435 on the evening. Delaney Dilfer contributed 33 assists and eight digs while Kate Phillips tied for the match lead with nine digs. Ananda Patterson sent down a season-high six kills (.600), while Madison Blane posted five blocks.
- Army's Julia Johnson led her team with 11 kills, while Savannah Bray totaled nine digs and Paige Fixemer registered a match-high nine blocks. Allanah Cutler record five blocks, while Diana Ethridge dished out 17 assists.
Turning Point
- Army burst out of the gates, leading 18-12 after a solo block by Fixemer. Bacus fueled an 8-0 run coming out of the timeout, scoring a kill and then serving up three aces while the Lady Flame surged ahead 20-18. Mangum scored four kills on Liberty's set-clinching 13-2 rally.
- The Lady Flames found themselves behind again in the second set, trailing 20-16 following a Julia Johnson kill. Liberty the went on a 5-0 run before Army regained momentum to take a 23-21 lead. However, Kamryn Bacus then scored kills on three out of the next four rallies, pushing the guests to the 25-23 win and commanding match lead.

- Liberty is now 2-1 all-time against Army in volleyball, with the Lady Flames defeating the Black Knights for the first time since Nov. 17, 1990. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a 3-2 Army win, Sept. 16, 2006 in Liberty's only other visit to West Point.
