LYNCHBURG, Va. โ Following their most successful year on the course, Liberty's Connor Polender and Isaac Simmons have also been honored for their efforts in the classroom.

Today, Polender and Simmons were named to the 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Additionally, Liberty's team was named to the 2022-23 GCAA Outstanding Team Academic listing, honoring program's with a 3.0 or high team GPA. Liberty was one of 266 schools across six divisions to earn the a GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award distinction. Liberty has been named to the listing each of the last five years.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholars team, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically.

In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 76.0 at the NCAA Division I level. They must also maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

A total of 546 NCAA Division I athletes from 193 schools earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America
Scholar honors.

This is the third time in Polender's career he has been named to a GCAA All-America Scholars team (also in 2020 and 2021) and the second time for Simmons (also in 2022).

Polender had a banner year during his final season on the Mountain. The native of Lake Bluff, Ill., finished the year with a 71.77 season stroke average, 1.4 strokes per round lower than his previous career-best scoring average (73.17 in 2019-20).

Polender played 23 of his 39 rounds (59.0 percent) at par or better and he posted a career-best 11 sub-70 rounds.

Polender helped the Flames capture the 2023 ASUN Men's Golf Championship when he finished tied for fifth place with a career-low 54-hole total of 14-under par 202 (72-63-67). He also paced Liberty at the NCAA Bath Regional by finishing tied for fifth place. ย ย ย ย ย

On the course for the Flames this season, Simmons finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 71.82 season stroke average, which is the best mark of his four-year career with the Flames.

He played 18-of-39 rounds at par or better this season (46.2 percent) and posted a career-best seven sub-70 rounds.

His best finish of the season was a fourth-place showing at the ASUN Championship where he carded a 15-under par 201 (64-67-70). His career-low 54-hole total helped Liberty capture the seventh conference title in program history.
