8/17/2023 12:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Tennessee will visit Liberty Arena for the first time on New Year's Eve, headlining the Liberty women's basketball team's 2023-24 non-conference schedule.
Head Coach Carey Green has lined up a challenging non-conference slate to prepare the Lady Flames for their first season of Conference USA competition. The Lady Vols are one of four non-conference foes who qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament and one of eight non-conference opponents who won 20+ games in 2022-23.
Home Sweet Home
The Lady Flames will tip off their 2023-24 campaign and their fourth season at Liberty Arena on Nov. 6 with a contest against Frostburg. That will mark their lone November home game before an action-packed December in Lynchburg.
Six of the Lady Flames' eight December contests will take place at Liberty Arena, bookended by clashes with reigning Sun Belt champion James Madison (Dec. 1) and NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier Tennessee (Dec. 31).
Other notable December home games include a Dec. 4 matchup with Towson (21-12, WNIT qualifier), a Dec. 13 contest against former Big South Conference rival Radford and Grand Canyon's (21-10) first visit to Lynchburg on Dec. 20.
Texas Two-Step
Liberty will play five games in Texas during the month of November, beginning with its first-ever matchups with Stephen F. Austin (27-7, WNIT qualifier) on Dec. 10 and Texas (26-10, NCAA Elite Eight qualifier) on Dec. 12.
The Lady Flames will return to the Lone Star State on Thanksgiving weekend for three contests at the Van Chancellor Classic in Katy, Texas (Nov. 24-26). Opponents, matchups and game times have yet to be announced.
Liberty's CUSA matchups at Sam Houston (Jan. 20) and UTEP (March 2) give the Lady Flames a total of seven contests in Texas this season.
Regional Flavor
Liberty's 15-game non-conference schedule also includes local road contests at North Carolina A&T (Nov. 19), 2023 NCAA qualifier NC State (Dec. 10) and 2023 WNIT qualifier Richmond (Dec. 16).
