The Liberty volleyball team recorded a 3.74 cumulative GPA for the 2022-23 academic year, ranking among the top 20 percent team GPA's for all NCAA Division I women's volleyball programs. For the 13th year in a row, the Lady Flames have earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
This is the sixth year in a row and sixth time in program history that the Lady Flames have received AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll distinction. This distinction went to 45 teams with the top GPA's in NCAA Division I women's volleyball, representing that top 20 percent of all teams' GPA's on the list. Liberty, Lipscomb, North Alabama and North Florida were the five ASUN programs to receive Honor Roll mention. The Lady Flames are the only Division I women's volleyball team to be named to the Honor Roll each of the last six years.
"Here at Liberty, we value being a student first and an athlete second," Head Coach Trevor Johnson said. "We are trying to make this the greatest volleyball experience in the country, not just academically, but athletically, socially and spiritually."
A record total of 1,332 teams across the United States earned the award for the 2022-23 academic year. The honor went to teams at the high school and collegiate (indoor and sand) levels.
The AVCA Team Academic Award is in its 31st year, having debuted in 1993, and honors volleyball programs that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 grade-point average on a 5.0 scale.
The Lady Flames were one of over 200 NCAA Division I women's volleyball programs to receive the 2022-23 AVCA Team Academic Award.
Liberty has been honored with the Team Academic Award for the 13th year in a row, and the 14th time in program history. The Lady Flames also made the listing for the 2001-02 academic campaign.
