
Horn and Carter Combine to Pitch Liberty Past Central Arkansas 4-2

Pitchers Garrett Horn and Trey Carter combined to hold Central Arkansas to two hits as the Liberty Flames topped the visiting Bears 4-2 in the opener of their ASUN series, Thursday evening at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Horn allowed a hit and two runs in the first inning, then shut down the Bears over the next five innings to record the win. The left-hander struck out a season-high 10 and walked four during his six innings of work.
Carter took over in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings to earn a save. The right-hander gave up one hit, striking out four and walking one.
Flames third baseman Cam Foster led all hitters in the game with three hits and drove in a run. Shortstop Jake Lazzaro added two hits and an RBI for Liberty.
Liberty evens its ASUN record at 5-5 and moves to 13-16 overall. Central Arkansas drops to 5-5 in conference play and 13-16 overall.

The Flames designated hitter followed by lining a 2-2 pitch back through the middle of the diamond to score Guy for a 3-2 advantage.
Foster made it three hits in a row, singling through the right side of the infield, moving Castillo to third base. Lazzaro followed with a single, scoring Castillo for what proved to be the final score of 4-2.

- Tonight's game between Liberty and Central Arkansas was the first-ever meeting between the two teams in their programs' history.
- Horn pitched six innings, his longest outing of 2023, and lowered his ERA to 2.17.
